I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to acknowledge this day. I'm choosing to share a little of what we decided on in case it's helpful to anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation (though I hope none of you ever do). We are simply setting aside the evening to talk openly about our feelings and having a simple dinner together. We have some white roses for her and lit some candles in her honor. We are also opening a gift that I have had wrapped and sitting on our dresser for the last few months. The gift is a figurine from Willow Tree that is symbolic of our angel daughter. It will sit in our curio cabinet to remind us that she is in a beautiful place and will always be ours. On the day that we intended to bring her home, I thought we should at least bring a symbol of her into our home.
On this special day we are grieving what could have been, but grateful for what is, and hopeful for what can be. We will always remember the joy our daughter briefly brought to our world and hope to live to be worthy to join her in heaven and finally hold her someday.
